Carmen Miranda was named after Maria do Carmo Miranda da Cunha. It was the seconddaughter of Joseph Barber Maria Cunha Pinto (1887-1938) and Maria Emilia Miranda(1886-1971). Carmen got the nickname in Brazil, thanks to the love that his father had with opera.
In Rio de Janeiro, his father opened a barbershop in Mercy Street, number 70, in partnership with a fellow countryman. The family settled on the floor above the hall. Latermoved to Rua Joaquim Silva, number 53 in Lapa.
