Son of Noemia Monteiro and Raul Villa-Lobos Villa-Lobos, was encouraged to study earlybecause his mother wanted him to doctor. However, Raul Villa-Lobos, the composer'sfather, an official of the National Library and amateur musician, gave him a musical education and adapted viola to the small Hector began studying cello.
In 1922 Villa-Lobos participated in the Week of Modern Art, the Municipal Theatre in São Paulo. The following year embarked for Europe, returning to Brazil in 1924. Travels back to Europe in 1927, financed by the billionaire Carlos Rio Guinle.
His marriage to Lucilia ends in the 1930s. After operating from cancer in 1948, he marriedArminda Neves d'Almeida to Jellybean, a former student, who after his death is in charge of the dissemination of a monumental work.
He died on November 17, 1959. And is buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Rio de Janeiro.
In 1960, Brazil's government created the Villa-Lobos Museum in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
