Carmen Miranda.

Carmen Miranda was named after Maria do Carmo Miranda da Cunha. It was the seconddaughter of Joseph Barber Maria Cunha Pinto (1887-1938) and Maria Emilia Miranda(1886-1971). Carmen got the nickname in Brazil, thanks to the love that his father had with opera.
In Rio de Janeiro, his father opened a barbershop in Mercy Street, number 70, in partnership with a fellow countryman. The family settled on the floor above the hall. Latermoved to Rua Joaquim Silva, number 53 in Lapa.

The big success came in 1930 when he recorded the march "To You Like Me" ("TAI")Joubert de Carvalho. Before the end of the year, it was pointed out by the newspaper O Pais as "the greatest Brazilian singer."


On May 29, 1939 Carmen premiered at the musical show "Streets of Paris" in Boston, withgreat success by public and critics. Their stakes drama became increasingly famous. OnMarch 5, 1940, made a presentation to President Franklin D. Roosevelt during a banquet at the White House.Between 1942 and 1953 appeared in 13 Hollywood movies and the most important radio programs, television, nightclubs, casinos and theaters in North America. The Good Neighbor Policy, implemented by the United States to seek allies in World War II, encouraged the immigration of Latin American artists. Despite having arrived in the United States before the creation of the Good Neighbor Policy, Carmen Miranda has always beenidentified as the most successful artist of the project.
On August 12, 1955, his embalmed body of a plane landed in Rio de Janeiro. Sixty thousand people attended his funeral held in the lobby of the Municipal Council of the thenfederal capital. The funeral procession to the cemetery St. John the Baptist was accompanied by about half a million people who occasionally sang, softly, "Now there's"one of his biggest hits.
